Meet the Designer
"Every print starts as a painting, before it ever becomes a piece."
— Ailanto
Â
Ailanto takes its name from a tree, the "tree of heaven," and something is fitting about that. The brand was built by twin brothers Iñaki and Aitor, who trained at the University of Barcelona's Fine Arts program before splitting into two very different disciplines. Iñaki went into fashion design. Aitor went into landscaping and botany. That mix shows up in everything they make.
Since 1995, the two have built a name for prints that feel painterly rather than printed. Each collection starts on canvas, not on a screen. They work through collage, tempera, watercolour, and oil paint the way a painter would, letting the image develop before it ever becomes fabric. Once the print exists, they shape the piece around it, using modelling techniques so the artwork keeps its own sense of movement and volume even once it's wearable.
It's fashion that borrows its instincts from art history: the color sensibility of nineteenth- and twentieth-century landscape painters and the texture of something made by hand. Every Ailanto piece carries that DNA, from the print down to the material.

You'd Like Ailanto If...
You love fashion that feels like art. You're drawn to prints with real depth, not just pattern. And you'd rather have a few pieces with character than a closet full of the same thing.
