Ailanto is a poetic journey seamlessly fusing components of traditional artistry and avant-garde art movements to deliver a signature show stopping style that is both groundbreaking and timeless. The brand is known for its handcrafted designs that often incorporate classic techniques, such as collage, tempera, watercolour and oil paint, combined with the use of noble materials, such as silk.

OVERVIEW
Ailanto is about the pursuit of artistry through the exploration of various art movements. They are known for their innovative designs that embody the values of uniqueness and authenticity. This is accomplished through a mix of traditional methods in their print designs that fuse artistic creativity with textile production.
Floral, botanical, geometric and wallpaper patterns are common themes running throughout their work.
Dynamic color palettes of deep greens, warm reds and midnight blues are contrasted against dark neutral backgrounds allowing the final design to evoke stunning looks that leave a lasting impression. Ailanto is all about artistic expression that is timeless, authentic and iconic.

FOUNDATION
Ailanto is a women's fashion brand founded by twin brothers, Inaki and Aitor. Inaki graduated from a fashion design program while Aitor completed studies in landscaping and botanics. Both completed studies at the Fine Arts University of Barcelona. Studies at the historic university would eventually lay the foundation for inspiration and themes that would set the brand apart in the world of fashion.

INSPIRATION
Much of the inspiration for the brand comes from artistic movements of the 19 and 20 centuries. The fall/winter collection was heavily inspired by the work of Alphone Mucha, a painter and illustrator that was recognized as one of the greatest proponents of the Art Nouveau style. Art Nouveau is an international art movement that was a deliberate break from historical styles with its long sinuous organic lines, free flowing nature, and asymmetrical forms inspired by nature. This inspiration is also reflected in the core values of the brand that embody uniqueness and authenticity. Ailanto is in an ongoing pursuit of experimenting with traditional mediums to develop innovative designs that are timeless.

DESIGN THEMES
Floral and Botanical
Through the brand's pursuit of uniqueness and their foundation in art and design, they explore several themes throughout their work.

Floral and botanical imagery is a common subject seen through many pieces of their collections. Colourful traditional hand painted designs of mallows, lilies of the valley, and Damash roses are often set against a backdrop of laces and black linework. Colors are also carefully chosen to create dynamic scenes. In particular, blue and red hues showcase vibrant energy and passion balanced against cool calmness. Backdrops are set against midnight blues and deep forest greens to further accentuate the contrast allowing the floral and botanical designs to take centre stage creating unforgettable looks.

Geometries
Another common theme in the work of Ailanto is seen in geometric shapes. For example, the lanceolate (lance like) patterns seen in the fall/winter collection. Once again the use of vibrant tones is set against a neutral background creating an intriguing composition as if the lanceolate figures are in rhythmic composition.

In addition, the geometric patterns also create a trompe-l'oeil effect; an optical illusion adding depth and intrigue to various pieces once again allowing artistry and innovation to be interwoven throughout their collections.

Wallpaper Patterns
Lastly, the brand makes use of collages to create wallpaper like patterns. This is developed through the use of tempera bird illustrations, which feature blackbirds, lyrebirds and starlings, that are layered upon each other imitating a wall with traces of antique wallpaper designs in the background, as seen in their latest collection. Once again their combination of traditional techniques and textile production lead to unique creations weaving art and fashion into every stage of the design process resulting in pieces that reflect exceptional artistry.
