Honouring Argos Silk Twill Scarf 42
Rooted in ancient Greek art, pottery, and epic literature, this design pays homage to Argos, the loyal and heartbreaking dog of Odysseus in Homer's The Odyssey. He reclines at the centre of the composition, draped in a flowing himation, crowned with beaten silver, and wreathed in narcissi. A terracotta collar painted in the manner of classical Greek pottery vessels encircles his neck, while above him hangs a detailed terracotta plaque honouring other celebrated dogs of Greek myth and legend.
The surrounding borders draw from the vase painters of ancient Greece, whose compositional traditions inspired the design throughout. Woven into the floral details are the wildflowers and plants of Odysseus' garden in Ithaca: bluebells, snowdrops, hellebore, and giant fennel, each one revered in the ancient Greek world. At the base of the design, a pair of terracotta rabbit vases flank a central terracotta flourish. At the same time, the outer borders evoke the metal and alabaster plaques of the Minoan Aegina Treasure.
A scarf for those who find beauty in mythology, craft, and the quiet devotion of an animal waiting to come home.
