The Lunar Leopard Silk Twill Scarf 90
Pre-order by Sunday, May 24th.
Rooted in the arts and culture of Edo-period Japan, a magnificent clouded leopard fills the center of the design, slightly stooped and alert, uneasy in strange new territory. A leopard tortoise perches on his back, holding a long, tasselled rope knotted in the style of samurai armour, while two ship rats huddle at his feet, one curling itself into the form of a tsuba sword guard, mimicking the intricate circular borders that frame the scene.
Overhead, swallows sweep through a starry midnight sky, willow branches flutter, and a crescent moon glows in the distance. Traditional Nobori flags bearing woodblock prints flank the composition, while handwritten Japanese script echoes ancient 17th-century zoological manuscripts throughout.
A haiku runs down the right-hand side of the design:
In the moonlight, the leopard finds freedom far from home
