"As a breeze glides across the wide-open plains, a lone bison stands in the silence. Glossy cowbirds have settled upon his back, calm and quiet. His longing eyes rise to meet mine for a second before his gaze drops to the earth once more. The bison's mind contains a wisdom, kindness, and nobility I will never comprehend. "The poetry of the earth is never dead"—John Keats. — A.S.

A tribute to the American Bison, decimated from 60 million to just 541 by 1889, in an attempt to subjugate the Native American population. The date 1876, marking the year the last bison in Oklahoma County was killed, is embedded within the design.

Details inspired by American folk art weathervanes, carved decoys, and hand-painted Civil War-era Parcheesi boards run throughout, alongside fraternal symbols reimagined as objects of natural reverence, among them the Eye of Providence; a beehive flag representing our collective duty to protect the natural world; and two pillars standing for the strength required to do so.
